Various ethnic groups have been consistently oppressed by the Burma Government. Villages were destroyed by the civil war, a lot of people displaced, including Karen. Only some of them can immigrate into other countries, such as Thailand or the US. Until April, 2012, the Burma Government and the ethnic military groups have reached a cease-fire deal. The displaced Karen can return home recently. However, the villages are still ignored by the Burma Government, they have to rebuild by themselves.
Political Organization
Kaw Thoo Mwe Khee is the headquarter of one of the Karen political organization, Klohtoobaw Karen Organization (KKO), and guarded by Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA). They pay special attention to the future and education of young people and also concern about the health of people. Thus, they welcome CMA to provide services there, moreover, teach the young people Chinese Medicine at the same time. Then, they can serve their own people by themselves in the future.
Medical Facts
As the whole village is in the re-building stage, the hospital is under construction. Although the doctor in the temporary clinic is not well-recognized, a 6-month medical training program is scheduled for teaching nearby teenagers to treat some common diseases, such as Malaria, diarrhea and acute respiratory infections, etc. CMA is planning to establish a Chinese Medicine department in the Kaw Thoo Mwe Khee Clinic where provides Acupuncture services and teaches treatments of common diseases and Chinese Medicine. By gaining the Chinese Medicine knowledge, in addition to Acupuncture, people can plant medicinal herbs and use existing local herbs to cure diseases. When the development is almost completed in Kaw Thoo Mwe Khee, CMA will expand the service to other locations in the Thai-Burma boarder soon.
